The Center for Japanese Studies was established in August 2015, in the year marking the 70th anniversary of Korean independence and the 50th anniversary of the normalization of Korea-Japan diplomatic relations, to contribute to the stable development of Korea-Japan relations through conducting research on Korea-Japan relations and Japan related issues.

Activities

Research on Korea-Japan Relations/ Short & Long term Diplomatic Policy Studies

The Center for Japanese Studies organizes seminars/workshops on pending issues regarding Japan and Korea-Japan relations and invites experts of Korea-Japan relations and international relations, in order to accumulate research outcomes of various topics and themes and to seek recommendations for carrying out effective short & long term diplomatic policy studies.

Consolidation of Networks with National & International Think Tanks

The Center for Japanese Studies actively implements projects to consolidate networks with national & international policy think tanks, academic research institutes, media agencies, and NGOs.

Reinforcement of Public Diplomacy toward Japan

As a first step to reinforce Korea’s public diplomacy toward Japan, the Center for Japanese Studies is in the process of implementing projects to promote mutual understanding between the Korean and Japanese public. It is also expanding the foundation for the stable development of Korea-Japan relations by providing platforms where opinion leaders and policy experts from Korea and Japan can exchange their perspectives and enhance balanced understanding on pending issues concerning both countries.
